DC -- our home away from home

We got stuck at Dulles on our way back from our weekend in London. We decided to salvage our trip by spending a couple days in DC, a city that is very special to us because that is where we spent most of our (brief, illicit) courtship. We checked into the St. Regis, saw our friend Ahmed, and tried to meet Tai Shan, the baby panda at the National Zoo.* Tai Shan, however, proved more elusive than Ahmed -- the closest we got to the baby panda was a grainy real-time closed-circuit video of him sleeping that was running in the gift shop. We also had a near-miss with our good friends Alissa and Andrew. We couldn't even see them on closed-circuit TV.

* While most pregnant ladies feel an intense emotional attachment to pregnant celebrities (Jennifer Garner, Britney Spears, -- ack! -- Katie Holmes...), Laura feels an intense emotional attachment to the baby panda Tai Shan ("Peaceful Mountain") and her mother Mei Xiang ("Mother of Baby Panda").
